A fire broke out in a historic building which used to house a mental health hospital in Rochdale. Firefighters were called to Scott House, on Furbarn Road, near to Norden, on Thursday evening.

Six fire engines arrived at the scene just after 8pm. The fire crews managed to bring the fire under control and left the scene after two hours.

Residents said they could see a plume of smoke emitting from the building. Other people living nearby said they could hear the roof collapsing.

The building previously provided care for men with learning difficulties and mental health issues. It was also once a former children's hospital and a children's home.
