The first shipment of a coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech will arrive in the UK as early as Thursday for a rollout next week.
The initial 800,000 doses will be shipped to Britain by ferry or plane while stored in temperature-controlled boxes to keep them cold.
A mass vaccination campaign will begin next week after the UK became the first country to give emergency use approval to the jab, but Boris Johnson has urged Britons not to get their hopes up for getting the new vaccine soon.
Priority will be given to care home residents and staff, the elderly and vulnerable, and NHS employees on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19.
