Fish finger sales rocket on coronavirus lockdown after years of falling sales

Freezer jolly good fellow! Captain Birds Eye is back in favour with families in lockdown. There were fears the fish finger had had its chips after years of falling sales.

But the teatime treat has made a big comeback 65 years after market leader Birds Eye introduced it to the UK. Sales of all brands rose 21% to £4.5million in the first three months of the year.

Around 250,000 more packets of fish fingers were bought compared with the same period last year. Shops reported a 48% jump in demand for frozen food ahead of the lockdown as families blew an extra £130million filling up their freezers.

Richard Harrow, of the British Frozen Food Federation, said: “Our research with retailers has revealed they are all experiencing a surge in sales.” Bi
