A former Royal Marine has spoken of his 'immense pride' after transporting the first patient to Manchester's Nightingale coronavirus hospital.

Site manager Steve Francis and his team at Interserve worked around the clock to ensure the NHS Nightingale Hospital North West was ready in time to treat its first patients.

Steve was also given the 'emotional' job of transporting the first patient - 84-year-old Marjorie Carter from Levenshulme - into the hospital when it first opened its doors in April.

Marjorie was transferred to the temporary facility from the Manchester Royal Infirmary. She spent four days at the Nightingale recuperating before being discharged to a care home for initial rehabilitation.
