Minister for Health Simon Harris has signed the regulations making it mandatory for all passengers coming into Ireland to fill out a passenger locator form.
From next Thursday it will be an offence for passengers not to fill in the form, giving details of where they intend to stay for the following 14 days.
Passengers coming into the country are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Failure to fill in the form will be punishable by a fine of not more than €2,500 or a term of imprisonment of not more than six months.
The regulations will be in effect until 18 June, when they will be reviewed. The minister said this was a necessary and important measure to ensure the risk of imported cases coming into the country was reduced.
