A number of Brits have reported sightings of a surge of spiders, including the poisonous false widow as they remain in coronavirus lockdown.

Using their time at home to clear out their sheds and garages, shocked homeowners made the discoveries. The early warm weather coupled with a quieter lockdown environment could be to blame, say experts.

False widows, cousins of the deadly black widow, are brown with cream markings and their painful bite can put a victim in hospital.
