Hundreds of caged cats, dogs, and rabbits have been found dead at a pet market in Pakistan which was abandoned when the country went into coronavirus lockdown.
The animals were left to die by pet shop owners who were forced to close up as country’s major cities shut down. Most of the cats and dogs were completely left alone but the situation also forced some owners to break lockdown protocols and sneak in at night to feed then.
Animal activist Ayesha Chundrigar said he could hear cries for help from the animals who had been left for two weeks after the lockdown was announced.
He said some were left locked in cages with no light or ventilation and the surviving animals were sat trembling among the dead.
