A prisoner who gave birth while on a ventilator has become the first female inmate to succumb to coronavirus. Andrea Circle Bear, 30, died just weeks after delivering a baby via C-section as she battled Covid-19 behind bars.
She was hospitalised in late march after falling ill at Winner City Jail in South Dakota. Andrea was then transferred to Federal Medical Centre in Fort Worth, Texas, before being taken to hospital with pregnancy complications.
Docs put her on a ventilator and delivered her baby by emergency C-section on April 1 – but she died just three weeks later.
