Retail giant John Lewis has dealt a fresh blow to workers on the eve of a second coronavirus lockdown in England. The 156-year-old department store announced a further 1,500 redundancies on Wednesday - with all workers set to leave the company by April.
Bosses said the move is part of a five-year transformation plan to "return to sustainable profits by 2025". It said the decision will save the business £50million alongside plans to permanently close eight stores as part of a £3million savings project.
Today's job cuts will affect head office roles, a spokesman said, with workers set to be cut or redeployed by April 2021. "Wherever possible, we will seek to find new roles in the Partnership for Partners whose roles become redundant," a
