Kate Middleton is thought to be "doing well" following her abdominal surgery, as Prince William clears his diary of royal duties to support her recovery. The Princess of Wales, 42, had the operation on Wednesday at The London Clinic in Marylebone, with Kensington Palace making a statement that she would be stepping back from royal duties until after Easter - with Buckingham Palace making their own statement about the King's planned hospital treatment just an hour later.

Her husband, Prince William, is also reducing his workload to be by her side and look after their three children George, Charlotte and Louis - meaning three of the four most senior Royals are unavailable for duties. The statement about Kate's health sparked concern from fans, but according to MailOnline palace sources have reassured that she is "doing well" following the operation.

Her surgery is said not to have been an emergency procedure and was not related to cancer. Kate is expected to stay in hospital for 10 to 14 days, longer than is usually advised after abdominal surgery, and will then take two to three months for her recovery once she is back in Windsor, which means she has had to postpone engagements and is not expected to be back on royal duties until after Easter.

Dr Zoe Williams told The Sun: "'Two weeks in hospital is longer than we would normally expect, but she doesn’t have a normal life.
