A Scots dad has helped transform the lives of three people after donating his kidney.Paul McVeigh is a retired MMA fighter who now runs the Griphouse gym in the Hillhead area of Glasgow.
The 41-year-old first had the idea of donating his kidney after speaking to his wife Maeve about a grandparent who went through dialysis. As reported by Glasgow Live, the dad underwent a series of tests to determine if he could become an altruistic donor.
Paul, who is originally from Northern Ireland, says he was excited when he learned that not only was he eligible but there were three matches who were waiting for a transplant. He said: "I was speaking to my wife about one of my grandparents who had been on dialysis, and she told me about patients she had treated who had renal failure, its impact on their lives, and the difference that kidney transplants can make.
It really got me thinking about how I could change someone’s life in this way. There were loads of reasons that I wanted to do it."I’d worked professionally in sports for many years and I’ve been lucky enough to remain in good health my whole life.
