Kerala reports first COVID-19 death

ERNAKULAM : Kerala reported its first coronavirus (COVID-19) death on Saturday after a 69-year old man succumbed to the virus at Kalamassery medical college near Ernakulam district.

The deceased had a recent travel history to Dubai and was reeling under past heart-related ailments. The man, soon after his return, was admitted to the hospital on 22 March.

Along with him, his wife and driver, who ferried him from the Kochi airport were also tested positive. The 49 co-passengers in the flight, in which he travelled, are also quarantined.

The hospital informed reporters that the dead body will be given to the relatives for funeral rites, but with adequate safety precautions.
