Large fire shuts down all lanes on I-95 near Cottman Avenue

PHILADELPHIA - Commuters in Philadelphia are adapting to new road closures and detours in the wake of the I-95 collapse that officials say will take months to repair. Some of the re-routed traffic, however, is being funneled onto tight streets in North Philadelphia that aren't equipped to handle the influx of traffic. A viewer photo given to FOX 29 News shows the aftermath of a tractor trailer coming down the tight confines of Westmoreland Street and tearing down a cable line. The traffic chaos has caused neighbors in Bridesburg to take matters into their own hands by placing cones and caution tape on the roadway to help direct traffic. "The people on the block here are trying to help people go the right way, because if they go all the way down towards Aramingo they may have to turn around and go towards traffic," Scott Simon said. "In order to keep them from going down that way, we have the cones which is forcing them to go the right way." Some of the road closures, according to neighbors, have caused drivers to become lost in unfamiliar parts of town which has raised safety concerns for residents with children. RELATED COVERAGE"It’s been really crazy because the street is never this busy, you got a lot of kids that live on this street," Joe Spada said.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a driver on Interstate 95 was killed Monday night when piece of metal hit their vehicle and broke through the windshield. Pennsylvania State Police said the fatal crash happened around 4 p.m.

Stellantis is recalling more than 354,000 Jeeps worldwide because the rear coil springs can fall off while they’re being driven.The recall covers certain 2022 and 2023 Grand Cherokee and 2021 to 2023 Grand Cherokee L SUVs.The company says in documents posted Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the springs may have been installed incorrectly in production.

PHILADELPHIA - Surveillance video obtained by FOX 29 captured the moment a tanker truck carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline crashed on an exit ramp under I-95 in Philadelphia and burst into flames.The resulting fire eventually caused the northbound lanes of the heavily trafficked interstate to collapse, and the southbound lanes damaged beyond repair.The video shows the tanker truck getting off the exit ramp at Cottman Avenue and crashing as it navigated a left-hand curve that led it back under the highway.  State police say the truck overturned -rupturing the tank – and burst into flames.Officials say the truck was carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline at the time of the crash. Family members shave since identified the driver of the truck as Nathaniel Moody.The 53-year-old was delivering the fuel to local gas stations in his personal truck while working for a company based in Pennsauken, according to family members.

BERKS COUNTY - What began as a fight at a house party, ended with a shooting involving three teenage boys over the weekend.A 15-year-old and 17-year-old were walking on Reading Avenue in Berks County when they were struck by bullets coming from a car that pulled up beside them.They were treated for gunshot wounds at a local hospital, but their conditions are not known.Police later identified a 14-year-old boy from Montgomery County as the shooter, according to the DA's office.MORE HEADLINES:The suspect told police that the shooting was in response to a physical fight at house party nearby.

BROWNS MILLS, N.J. - Fire crews in New Jersey are battling yet another wildfire as officials say a recent dry spell has helped allow wildfires to run rampant.Crews responded to the area of City Line Road in Browns Mills, Burlington County Friday afternoon for reports of a fire.SKYFOX was over the scene where smoke and flames could be seen emerging from a significant portion of the tree line. The New Jersey Forrest Fire Service asked residents to avoid the area and says their crews have responded to the scene to assess the situation. The fire comes as skies across the region finally began to clear after days of being impacted by smoke from wildfires burning in Canada.Earlier this week, firefighters were able to contain another wildfire in Jackson Township, New Jersey that burned 82 acres. Over the weekend, the Forest Fire Service announced complete containment of the 210-acre Flatiron wildfire blaze in Medford, Burlington County. That fire started just after midnight Friday and was burning toward 40 homes before crews managed to move the blaze away from the structures. Residents weren’t evacuated but were protected within their homes, some using garden hoses to help as crews worked in the backyards to conduct backfires and burnout operations, officials said.Last week crews stifled a wildfire that burned 5,000 acres in Bass River State Forest which stretches across Ocean and Burlington counties in the Pinelands.

MOSCOW, Idaho - A judge overseeing the case against Bryan Kohberger, charged with killing four University of Idaho students last fall, is set to hear arguments Friday over a gag order that largely bars attorneys and other parties in the case from speaking with news reporters.A coalition of more than 30 media organizations has challenged the order, saying it violates the Constitution’s guarantees of free speech and a free press, as has a lawyer for one of the victim's families. But prosecutors and the defendant's lawyers insist it's needed to prevent prejudicial news coverage that could damage Kohberger's right to a fair trial."It remains appropriate to have an Order reminding lawyers and their agents of the rules of engagement in this country and that we try cases in court, not in the press," one of Kohberger's attorneys, Jay Weston Logsdon, wrote in a memo to the court this week.Kohberger, 28, is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and burglary in connection with the stabbing deaths in Moscow, Idaho, on Nov.
