Roger Federer became the world’s best-paid athlete over the past year despite only generating around £5m of his earnings last year from actually playing tennis.
Barcelona icon Lionel Messi and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo were both beaten to top spot by the Swiss. In the latest annual list from Forbes, 38-year-old Federer moved up four places from last year to pip his elite sporting rivals.
He became the first tennis player to ever top the Forbes rankings, with the coronavirus crisis clearly having had little impact on his wealth.
