Mallorca and Ibiza are experiencing a second wave of coronavirus, according to health chiefs for the Balearic Islands. The soaring number of cases over the weekend has seen stricter lockdown measures enforced - following 252 hospital admissions over the last three days.

Of those hospitalised with the virus, 33 are in intensive care - compared to 23 last Friday. Javier Arranz, spokesman for the Autonomous Committee for the Management of Infectious Diseases in the Balearic Islands, admitted today that there will be deaths and that several people aged between 20 and 50 are seriously ill.

He admitted the regions were in the grip of a second wave, but said it would not be as strong as in March when the pandemic began.
