ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man is in custody after he attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old girl at a bus stop in Escambia County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Chip Simmons said they are not releasing the man’s name, but the 30-year-old is facing charges of attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault with a knife.

Simmons said the man has a criminal history, including sexual offenses with a child. Around 7 a.m. Tuesday, deputies said the 30-year-old man pulled up to the girl waiting for the bus on Old Corry Field Road and Perdido Street.

Video shows the man leave the vehicle armed with a knife and pick up the girl. Investigators said the girl was able to break free from the man and get to her family safely.

WEST PENSACOLA, Fla. - A 30-year-old man is charged with attempted kidnapping after investigators say he tried to grab an 11-year-old girl at her bus stop in the Florida Panhandle.The Escambia County Sheriff's Office said the suspect, Jared Paul Stanga, is behind bars and charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under 13, aggravated assault and battery.Sheriff Chip Simmons said Stanga has a lengthy criminal history, including sexual abuse of a child.PREVIOUS: Attempted kidnapping of 11-year-old girl caught by surveillance camera in West Pensacola"This animal is off the street," Simmons said in a press conference late Tuesday night.
