Odion Ighalo will remain a Manchester United player until the end of January next year after an agreement was struck with Shanghai Shenhua.
The 30-year-old's original four-month loan deal expired on Sunday, but United had been locked in negotiations with the Chinese Super League side to extend it for the past couple of weeks.
While Shanghai Shenhua were originally keen to either sell Ighalo permanently or include an option to buy, United had no interest in making the deal permanent.
But Ighalo was desperate to stay at Old Trafford and a deal was struck on Sunday to allow him to remain with his boyhood club.
