Matt Hancock has blamed Apple for the failure of the NHS coronavirus app - and can't say when a new one will be up and running.
The Health Secretary said the government "backed both horses" - developing an app based on Apple and Google's systems as well as the government's in-house platform.
But on May 18 the Department of Health told the Mirror: "There is no alternative app." It was revealed today that the contact tracing app - which was developed in-house despite experts warning it wouldn't work - only identified 4% of contacts on iPhones.
The Health Secretary insisted it worked well on Google Android devices - but blamed Apple for refusing to change their rules to allow their app to work.
