COLOMBO (News 1st) – Two people have died from drowning in the Nawalapitiya and Kuliapitiya areas.Police said that a 58-year-old man died on Friday (21) afternoon after falling into the Edandewela Canal and being swept away by the currents.It occurred when a van transporting 5 people has been driving from Kuliyapitiya Diyawala to Aruvpola.Police said that the van driver stepped out of the vehicle to check the water level near the Edandewela Canal, when he fell into the canal and got swept away.Meanwhile, another person died after falling into a canal in Galabadawatta area in ​Nawalapitiya.Police said the victim was a 65-year-old resident of Kegalle.Police added that the victim had visited his relative's residence when he met with this tragic accident.

Elijah Jennings (Philly's Most Wanted)BROOKHAVEN, Ga. - A high-speed chase through metro Atlanta led to the arrest of a man wanted for murder in Pennsylvania.Elijah Jennings, 28, of Philadelphia, was wanted for the shooting death of a man inside his car in May 2022. PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a man who is being sought in connection to a recent deadly shooting was exonerated last year from a 2012 murder conviction.Police on Thursday shared a mugshot of 32-year-old Jahmir Harris who is linked to a deadly shooting that happened Sept. 5 on the 1700 block of North 56th Street. Prosecutors say Harris was identified by security footage as the driver of a vehicle that two gunman exited before shooting 50-year-old Charles Gossett in the back of the head around 2 a.m.Harris was previously convicted in the shooting death of 45-year-old Louis Porter just two days before Christmas 2012 in the parking lot of a Walgreens on Oregon Avenue.Porter's son was in the backseat of the car when investigators say more than a dozen shot were fired, but the 5-year-old was not injured.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – A daring rescue operation was launched to rescue a young man trapped in the middle of the Mahaweli River, while the search continues to locate another missing man.A major rescue operation got underway in Waratenne, Kandy after two young men were swept away by strong currents in the Mahawelia River.Initial reports said that the two men were swimming with several others.One of the young men had managed to cling on to a rock in the middle of the river, braving the strong currents from Sri Lanka's longest river.The rescue operation was launched by the Life Saving Team from the Kandy Police, and the Sri Lanka Army.With the assistance of two local men, the life saving teams managed to successfully retreive the man following a two hour rescue missing.The search continues to locate the other missing man.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – One person was killed in a drive-by shooting in Yakkalamulla, Galle on Wednesday (19) morning.Sri Lanka Police said that two people including a child were also injured.The Office of the Police Spokesperson said two motorcycle gunmen had opened fire at the trio, killing a 33-year-old man.Reports suggested that the deceased was linked to previous crimes that took place in the south of Sri Lanka.The injured are a 3-year-old child, and a 24-year-old man.

Deptford Township Police Department are investigating a car crash that left a man dead on Tuesday morning.  DEPTFORD TWP, N.J. - Deptford Township Police Department are investigating a car crash that left a man dead on Tuesday morning. Just before 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Clements Bridge Road, right along the Camden County border, for reports of a vehicle collision. Police say after they arrived, it was determined that a late model Honda Accord collided with two FedEx trucks. The driver of the Honda Accord, who authorities say is a 24-year-old man from Deptford Township, was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities say the identity of the victim is being withheld until family has been notified. This crash is actively being investigated and police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 856-845-2220, or email [email protected]. 

NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office announced that they made an arrest after arson was determined to be the cause of a building fire in Newark on Tuesday. Fire officials say they responded to the Red Roof Inn on South College Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. for reports of smoke inside the hotel. Upon arrival, firefighters say they found a fire in one of the rooms.

The researchers at Boston University have claimed that they have developed a Covid-19 strain that inflicts severe disease and has  80 per cent kill rate. The ones that are dominant across the world such as the sub-variants of Omicron are said to be mild when it comes to their severity. To develop the most lethal Covid strain, the researchers, according to a report, extracted the spike protein from Omicron and genetically engineered it into the strain of Covid-19 which was first detected in China’s Wuhan and tried it on mice.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in Philadelphia say a teenage suspect wanted in connection to the deadly shooting near Roxborough High School surrendered to police on Monday. Troy Fletcher, 15, had a lawyer present when he turned himself into homicide detectives on multiple charges, according to police. An arrest warrant for Fletcher was issued last week for multiple charges, including murder, in connection to the Sept. 27 shooting that claimed the life of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde and injured 4 others.Hours earlier, federal authorities increased an award for 16-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn by $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

PHILADELPHIA - A driver is wanted for a fatal hit-and-run in Philadelphia's Fox Chase section, and now police say they have the vehicle on camera.The 62-year-old victim was crossing Verree Road near Rhawn Street when he was hit by a speeding vehicle Friday night, according to police.Police say the vehicle, a blue Ford Edge, then dragged the man at least 100 feet.

FRANKFORD - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting of a 41-year-old man on a SEPTA platform in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood.Officials said the shooting happened Sunday night, just before 9 p.m., at the Frankford Avenue and Margaret Street SEPTA platform.
