Tanviha was just 33-weeks pregnant when she tested positive for Covid-19 in January of 2021. At the time, vaccinations had not yet been rolled out to pregnant women, leaving her with scarce protection from the virus.
Still, when Tanviha Quraishi-Akhtar and her husband, Tabraiz, caught the virus, their symptoms were not severe. The most the expectant mum had been suffering with was some shortness of breath - nothing she was particularly concerned about.
Only a matter of days later, her baby would have to be delivered prematurely via emergency Caesarean section. And, after weeks of intensive care, she would be put into a medically-induced coma, rushed to receive a treatment where all of her blood was removed from her body to be oxygenated by
