NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. - New Jersey environmental officials will allow a shore town to carry out emergency repairs to its badly eroded beachfront, even as they continue a years-long fight with city officials over how best to protect the popular Jersey Shore resort's fragile coastline.On Wednesday, the state Department of Environmental Protection told North Wildwood it could reshape three blocks worth of dunes and repair public access points to a condition that they can be safely used in time for the approaching Memorial Day holiday weekend.The move marked a turning point in a long-running dispute between the city and the state over how to ensure that the beach is wide enough for recreation and to ensure that dunes are sturdy enough to protect the city from coastal storms.North Wildwood and its surrounding coastal neighbors have not received the periodic beach replenishment projects that most of the rest of the Jersey Shore has been getting for decades, due in part to the difficulty of getting approval from property owners.As a result, it has experienced serious erosion over the last decade, and says it needs to take immediate emergency steps including shoring up dunes and building another steel sea wall to complement one it already built.The state has repeatedly denied permission for such work, saying it could actually worsen erosion due to the scouring effect of waves carrying sand along hard barriers like sea walls.

PHILADELPHIA - A North Philadelphia community is grappling with the loss of a recently-opened grocery store after a stolen car crashed into the building, police say. According to officials, the stolen vehicle crashed into the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market on N American Street early Sunday morning. Crews remove a stolen vehicle from the inside of a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in North Philadelphia. Philadelphia police say the driver of the stolen vehicle did get injured in the crash, but no additional information was released. FOX 29 was at the supermarket's grand opening in North Philadelphia in July 2022. The neighborhood was considered a food desert prior to the opening of the store, which provided residents with quality groceries nearby. The front entrance to the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in North Philadelphia is blocked off after a stolen vehicle crashed into the building. 15-year-old among 3 teens shot in North Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA - A 15-year-old and two other teenagers were injured by gunfire Tuesday afternoon in North Philadelphia, according to police. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the intersection of Diamond and Gratz streets just after 4 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Police found two teens, 15 and 17, suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs and drove the boys to Temple University Hospital where they were placed in stable condition. An 18-year-old, who police say was also shot in the leg, arrived at Temple Hospital in a private vehicle and was also placed in stable condition. No arrests were reported immediately following the triple shooting.
