New Zealand is on the verge of 'eliminating' coronavirus following weeks of a strict lockdown. The number of new cases across the country has fallen to single digits, with just one confirmed case on Monday.
In total, New Zealand has reported 19 deaths and 1,472 Covid-19 confirmed and probable cases, as life slowly starts to return to normal.
The government imposed strict level four lockdown measures which were in place for almost five weeks, which New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described as "the strictest constraints placed on New Zealanders in modern history." But the alert level has now shifted to level three, which has allowed takeaways and some non-essential shops to reopen.
