Newport stabbing: Police officer, 47, knifed in belly after being called to 'disorder'

A police officer was stabbed in the belly while responding to reports of disorder before officers discovered a fire at the scene.

The 47-year-old sergeant was knifed in the abdomen when he was called to an address in St Vincent Lane, Newport, Wales, during the early hours of Thursday.

Gwent Police said the officer, who is from Newport, Wales, was being treated at the Royal Gwent Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Shortly after officers attended the scene, they reported a fire at the location. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.
