A hard-hitting NHS charity advert showing Santa fighting for life with Covid-19 has been branded "insensitive" and accused of upsetting children.

The short film, highlighting the grim realities health workers have faced this year, shows Father Christmas seemingly unconscious before being revived by medics in PPE.

NHS Charities Together shared the advert, named The Gift, on social media, writing: "We adore the ad and dedicate it to all NHS workers who've given everything to care and keep us safe." Latest data shows Covid-19 was mentioned on more than 73,000 death certificates between the start of the year and November 27, while the government's death toll currently stands at 63,506.
