Nicola Sturgeon announces 78 new coronavirus deaths and 2,649 cases in Scotland

coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland over the last 24 hours. Nicola Sturgeon announced that 2,649 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight, taking the total figure to 143,715since the start of the pandemic.

100 people are in hospital being treated for the deadly virus, while 100 people remain in intensive care. Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 4,779 have died after a positive covid test.The First Minister announced the latest figures from St Andrew's House in Edinburgh.

The news came on the day it was revealed that 19 residents died at a coronavirus-stricken care home in Fife. NHS health chiefs confirmed the tragic death toll at Lomond Court Care home in Glenrothes after a cluster was identified last.
