The number of confirmed coronavirus cases around the world has passed 10 million. Figures from the US-based Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Centre this morning revealed the landmark has been reached, as the death toll edges closer to 500,000.
The true figure will be far higher, however, with each country having different criteria for testing for the killer bug. At 11.30am UK time, the number of confirmed cases across the globe stood at 10,001,527.
More than a quarter of these are in the US, where 2.5 million have tested positive. Brazil, with 1.3 million, is the next highest.
