Opposition parties have called for clarity over the Government's approach to social distancing, after a majority of the Cabinet is reported to have questioned the existing two-metre limit yesterday.
A meeting is being arranged between ministers and Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan on whether to adopt World Health Organization guidance that a one-metre gap is safe.
There is said to have been a robust discussion at Cabinet yesterday, with some ministers pressing for the existing 2m rule to be halved.
Fianna Fáil's health spokesman Stephen Donnelly said one-metre social distancing should be introduced with all haste, if it is in line with public health advice.
