Parents 'could face fines' if they keep children off school in September

English children in reception and years 1 and 6 returned to class this morning for the first time since schools were closed over two months ago.

But it’s estimated that up to a million worried parents could be keeping their kids at home because they’re still worried about the spread of coronavirus.

The Government has stressed that no fines are planned for parents who keep their kids at home. Anne Longfield, the Children's Commissioner for England, told Sky News: "I have heard nothing about [fines] during this summer term. "When schools reopen properly in September, it will be the case.
