Premier League fans have been left frustrated by some clubs taking Direct Debit payments despite the season being on hold. It places further pressure on the top flight to confirm at Friday's shareholders’ meeting whether the campaign will be completed.
It also follows Newcastle ’s refusal last week to freeze or suspend direct debits despite the financial damage and uncertainty regarding match scheduling caused by the coronavirus emergency.
Supporters unable to work because of the government lockdown were stunned to see much-needed cash taken from their accounts despite the lack of football.
Clubs insist that the money will definitely be refunded if games are played behind closed doors or if the season is scrapped.
