NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made a fresh pitch to the international community to reform multilateral institutions like the UN to make it more representative of the current world order.In a speech to the UN Economic and Social Council’s 2020 High Level segment on the subject of “Multilateralism after COVID 19: what kind of UN do we need at the 75th anniversary?" Modi said India firmly believed that the “path to achieve sustainable peace and prosperity is through multilateralism."“Multilateralism needs to represent the reality of the contemporary world. Only reformed multilateralism with a reformed UN as its centre can meet the aspirations of humanity.

COVID-19: TN govt gives consent to BCG trial at ICMR's Chennai institute

CHENNAI : Sanction has been accorded to a trial by the Indian Council of Medical Research's Tuberculosis institute here to study the efficacy of BCG vaccine in the elderly in the fight against COVID-19, the government said on Wednesday. Chief Minister K Palaniswami, in an order, has given the State's approval after ICMR sought Tamil Nadu government's permission to study the efficacy of the Bacillus Calmette- Gurin (BCG) vaccine in senior citizens at its National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) at Chetpet here.

As India's Covid-19 tally surges, more cities to come under lockdown
