Rise in hospitalisations a 'concerning trend' - HSE

The Chief Executive of the Health Service Executive has described the increase in hospitalisations from Covid-19 as a very concerning trend.

In a tweet, Paul Reid said there were 90 people being treated for the virus in hospital - of which 19 patients were in intensive care units.

He said this compared to figures of 23 hospitalisations and eight cases in ICU just  four weeks ago, and described this as "very concerning".

His comments come as the acting Chief Medical Officer appealed to people to encourage their family and friends to heed the public health guidelines.
