The would-be robber who threatened to stab a pensioner but was punched in the face by the 77-year-old has now been jailed for the cowardly crime.
Michael Collins thought Trevor Weston would be an easy target and was quickly proven wrong when he refused to hand over his cash and bank cards, Wales Online reports.
Cardiff Crown Court heard Collins screamed: “Give me your money and card or I’ll stab you.” The incident happened at around 6am on February 5 outside Sainsbury’s in Colchester Avenue in Cardiff where Mr Weston had driven to get cash out.
Tim Evans, prosecuting, said: “He was alone. He parked, walked to the cashpoint, and used his card. As he took the cash he was shocked to feel a pair of arms reach around him.” He told the court:
