COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Cabinet of Minister granted approval for the establishment of National Contributory Pension Fund.According to a document released by the Department of Government Information, the Cabinet has recognized that is appropriate to establish a fund named National Contributory Pension Fund to ensure an appropriate environment is created for public sector employees to spend their retired life without being a burden to the country as well as to provide a pension with a certain profit for the retired life of the state sector pensioners. Accordingly, 8% from the basic salary of the employee and 12% from the employer should be credited to the proposed fund when a state employee is recruited in the state service, it added.An independent entity governed by a board of management to manage the proposed contributory pension fund will be established and a fund manager with special skills will be appointed for management of the funds. The proposed national contributory pension scheme will be applicable to the individuals newly recruited  to the government service, said Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunwardena on Tuesday (28).Those recruited to government service after the month of January  2016 can contribute to the proposed national contributory pension scheme as per their consent, said the statement from the Departmnet of Government Information."Since 2000, all public sector appointment letters carry the clause that they would be moved to the National Contributory Pension Scheme in the future. Authorities launched an investigation into the Tobacco Hut after two people who consumed tainted THC gummies overdosed on fentanyl and recovered. Authorities in Montgomery County are warning of THC gummies tainted with heroin and fentanyl after two non-fatal overdoses were traced back to three county tobacco stores."Individuals should not consume any flavors of these Strictly Delta brand of CBD gummies, if anyone has any of these gummies, do not eat them," DA Steele said at Friday's press conference.The products were seized for testing during a search warrant executed last Thursday night.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating the suspicious death of a child in the city. According to officials, police responded to a residence on the 400 block of N 50th Street in the city's West Philadelphia section on Friday around 2:30 a.m. Authorities say when officers arrived they found a 3-year-old girl unresponsive in a bathtub with no water. Medics transported the child to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m., according to police. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOfficials say the child also had bruises on her body. No additional information was released by police. Police say the investigation is active and ongoing with the department's Special Victims Unit.

MERCER COUNTY, N.J. - All schools in Ewing were closed Tuesday in an "abundance of caution" due to a security threat connected to a mass shooting in Michigan. According to police, the Ewing Police Department was contacted by New Jersey State Police about a mass shooting at Michigan State University, which had a possible connection to Ewing, New Jersey. Authorities say the shooter, identified as 43-year-old Anthony McRae, had local ties to Ewing Township. Officials say at the time of his death by suicide in Michigan, McRae had a note in his pocket that indicated a threat against two Ewing public schools. MORE HEADLINES:McRae had a history of mental health issues, according to police. As the investigation continued, officials made the decision to close for the day as officers stayed near every school in the township. Authorities say they later learned the incident was isolated to Michigan and that there is no threat to Ewing schools. Police say McRae has not lived in the Ewing area for several years. This is a developing story.
