Jansin Turgut admits he may get upset on this week’s anniversary of the day he tried to commit suicide. The former Hull and Salford forward almost succeeded, being left with a catastrophic list of broken bones after throwing himself off the roof of a three-storey car park at Ibiza airport.
The worst of his injuries were two broken legs, a smashed pelvis, five fractured vertebrae in his lower back and every bone in his face broken.
But unlike the dark times that led to that dreadful attempt, Turgut is now emotionally and mentally strong enough to cope. And not just cope.
The horrific lessons he has learned, and the pain he has gone through, have turned him into an impressive campaigner for mental health.
