The quaint English cathedral city of Salisbury was rocked when father and daughter Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found unconscious on a park bench after being poisoned with a deadly nerve agent.
Former Russian double agent Sergei had been living in the UK since 2010 and the day after his daughter arrived to visit him from his home country the pair were fighting for their lives.
A day after they were rushed to hospital, medical staff realised they had been poisoned with Novichok and declared an emergency.
Sergei and Yulia had spent the morning at his home in Salisbury before driving into town and heading to the Bishops Mill pub for a drink.
