Writing for the Detroit Free Press (3/31), Susan Tompor warns that, “as the Detroit area emerges as a hotspot for the coronavirus, fake pitches and posts are set to ignite” as scammers seek to take advantage of panic surrounding the pandemic.
Tompor recommends ignoring ads and offers for COVID-19 testing kits or treatment, as well as any emails “relating to some so-called essential step necessary to receive a stimulus check.” In addition, “phony text messages are being sent to consumers impersonating the U.S.
