Stockport has become the latest council in Greater Manchester to confirm that schools will not be opening from June 1. On Saturday the Manchester Evening Newsreported how a growing number of councils across England have rejected government plans to reopen schools from the beginning of next month.
Rochdale council says it won't be forced into a timetable set by the government and has written to parents to warn them not to expect schools to open at the start of the month, stating they 'do not want parents to rely on a date suggested by government, that schools may be unable to meet'.
Wigan council has also informed parents that the June 1 date is not set in stone. Now Stockport town hall has confirmed its schools will not open until June 1
