Sir Patrick Vallance, the government's chief medical advisor, told the Parliamentary Health and Social Care Committee today: "I can tell you that a second peak is something that is very real, that you need to watch out for, and you can see it in other countries." More than 29,000 lives have been lost to Covid-19 in the UK to date with that figure expected to continue to rise over the coming days and weeks.
