The majority of patients have only just become eligible for the vaccine or have received one dose, according to Dr Helen Wall, who is in charge of the town's vaccination programme.

She said only 'a handful' of those being treated had been vaccinated twice. Infections in the town have been rising for weeks, with the latest transmission rate standing at 433 positive tests per 100,000 people - the highest in England and more than 17 times the national average.
