Gordon Ramsay risks reigniting bitter Covid lockdown row with Cornish neighbours
Gordon Ramsay has risked reigniting his bitter row with Cornish neighbours, admitting in a new interview that he regrets not defending himself at the time.In 2020, during the pandemic, the 55-year-old moved to his beachfront home with his wife Tana and their five children, Megan 23, twins Holly and Jack, 22, Tilly, 20 and Oscar, two.The chef left Cornwall locals furious, however, because the decision came during the first COVID lockdown. But the TV personality assured their move was ahead of the lockdown being enforced. In a recent interview with Radio Times, the Hell’s Kitchen star revealed that he was still confused as to why he was criticised so heavily and said: "God knows why we took so much s**t from the Cornish."The celebrity chef explained how he relished parts of lockdown because he was able to cherish time spent with his children.Looking back, Gordon reflected: "A time like that – we'll never get back again. When the kids started disappearing again, I didn't want it to end – as a dad, not a chef."His decision to move to his second home sparked outrage from the locals who accused him of "bringing the virus from London."According to The Sun, villagers wanted him "the hell out of London" and threatened to expose his address if he didn’t leave.Residents made their feelings clear in a Facebook group called You Shouldn’t Be Here. One local said: "Wealthy second homers think making a few quid means they are immune from the virus and any rules.

Health watchdog NICE reveals 'landmark' better care for those exposed to alcohol in womb
Health watchdog NICE has revealed a “landmark” initiative today to vastly improve the care of those exposed to alcohol in the womb.Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) affects around 3% of the UK population - three times as many as autism - yet more than half of Brits (53%) have NEVER heard of it.FASD is a neurodevelopmental condition that arises from alcohol exposure in the womb, with 428 associated conditions linked to “devastating consequences” - from brain damage to physical and developmental issues.Today, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) said that any child thought to have been exposed should be given an assessment.Any child confirmed to have been exposed should be sent for a neurodevelopmental assessment, and those confirmed to have FASD should be given a management plan for their needs. It also said women should be given early advice not to drink in their pregnancy, and have their alcohol consumption noted on records. This is part of a 20-year fight by campaigners and families living with FASD, who feel they have been largely “unsupported”.The spokeswoman for National Organisation for FASD, Joanna Buckard, said: “The NICE Quality Standard is a major leap forward in the fight to reduce alcohol-exposed pregnancies by giving women the information and support they need and, vitally, to create brighter futures for those with FASD and their families.“Too many people with FASD up to now have been left undiagnosed and unsupported, with sometimes devastating and avoidable consequences.”Professor Raja Mukherjee, who heads the FASD National Specialist Clinic and was on the NICE Quality Standard Committee, said: “FASD is a complex condition which affects brain and body.“There are over 428

Emmerdale's Marlon Dingle suffers stroke in agonising health battle storyline
Emmerdale next week. The cheerful Woolpack chef will undergo a serious health battle in order to raise awareness of the warning signs that come before a stroke and to shed light on how the condition can impact others. The long-running ITV soap will focus primarily on Marlon (Mark Charnock) and tell the narrative from his character’s perspective.Marlon's harrowing story has been produced with the support of the charity, the Stroke Association, who has worked closely with Emmerdale’s scriptwriters, research and production teams in order to provide a realistic portrayal. The story will also explore how Marlon's diagnosis will affect his loved ones and the wider community.Commenting on the scenes, Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw said: "Warm, witty and kindhearted Marlon is undoubtedly one of Emmerdale's most loved characters and with Mark Charnock's sheer skill, craft and incredible range, it felt totally right to play such an incredibly important story as this, with Marlon highlighting that a stroke can happen at any time and showing the catastrophic consequences it can have on the person affected and their whole family."Laura also shared her disbelief regarding the number of stroke survivors in the UK.She added: "When we first started researching this storyline I was shocked by the stark statistics that the UK alone has 1.3 million stroke survivors, so we knew we wanted to do those people and their families justice by showing the raw reality of a stroke as truthfully and honestly as we could."Laura added that extensive research was done in order to reflect the painful reality that many stroke survivors go through. The soap producer explained: "As the story unfolds, we follow the tragic and heartbreaking long-lasting

Terrifying Covid variant warning as scientists spot new 'Delta-Omicron' hybrid
coronavirus that appears to be a hybrid of the Omicron and Delta variants. The worrying discovery comes after multiple false alarms over the last few months, with many preempting fears that the two hugely disruptive strains would combine to create the dreaded 'Deltacron'.Virologists from L’Institut Pasteur in Paris announced their findings after sequencing genomes in positive Covid samples taken from several regions across France. They now believe that the variant could have been circulating since early January. Commenting on the findings, Aris Katzourakis, a professor of evolution and genomics at the University of Oxford said: "This one is legit."“[It is] one to keep an eye on.”Other similar clusters are also said to have been found in Denmark and the Netherlands, but have not been confirmed yet.Dr Stephen Griffin, a virologist at the University of Leeds, said that while the new variant "doesn’t seem to have taken off as a dominant strain yet", this may only be because of a "very slow start" based on the number of initial cases. But he added that "fact it persists in the fact of Omicron" could suggest that its ability to transmit "can’t be too shoddy".No conclusive data has yet shown whether Deltacron can be considered to be more infectious or deadly than its 'root' variants, Delta and Omicron.Covid technical lead Maria van Kerkhove from the World Health Organisation revaled on Thursday that her team had been “tracking and discussing” the new variant.
