Sports Direct had one of its stores shut down by police after opening a day early. Government rules mean non-essential retailers have been closed since March 23, but these were relaxed on Monday, 15 June, to let many shops reopen provided they did so safely.
But Sports Direct in Scarborough jumped the gun - opening on Sunday, 14 June, instead. Photographs on social media show huge queues of shoppers snaking down the road, waiting to get in - despite it being a day too early to open.
