Fire chiefs have issued a stern warning after someone lit a barbecue on a Beetham Tower balcony, sparking a major emergency response.
At least seven fire engines - including an aerial appliance - attended the 47-storey Deansgate skyscraper after the alarm was raised at around 8.45pm on Tuesday (April 7).
Firefighters discovered someone was having a barbecue on the 34th floor. They said 'advice was given' to those responsible. It has now emerged someone saw the flickering of flames and was concerned there was a flat fire, so raised the alarm.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service said in an update: "As the Beetham Tower is a high rise residential building we always send a number of fire engines to ensure any fire can be safely put out."
