The hand sanitizer category saw a 53% growth in Feb against a combined 11% growth in the last three months A surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in India has led to a spurt in demand for hand sanitizers, masks, liquid hand washes, cooking oil, and pulses as shoppers stocked up on personal hygiene goods, as well as basic staples, fearing an impending lockdown, market researcher Nielsen said.

Hygiene categories showed significant growth in February, Nielsen said in a presentation on Thursday estimating the impact of the viral disease on the country’s India’s fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector and retailers.
