PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man is fighting for his life after police say he was caught in a barrage of gunfire as he was coming home from work. The shooting happened just after 12:30 a.m. Friday on the 1800 block of North Marston Street in North Philadelphia. Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found a 24-year-old man inside a home and laying on the floor with gunshot wounds to his chest, arms, legs, torso, and back. Responding officers rushed the victim to Temple University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. MORE HEADLINES: Philadelphia police say over 35 shots were fired from at least two different guns. The victim’s home was struck at least 15 times by gunfire, according to police.

LOWER MERION, Pa. - A Pennsylvania high school teacher is facing charges after investigators say he posed as a teenage girl on a social media app to solicit naked pictures from young girls. Jeremy Schobel, 32, was arrested Wednesday when federal authorities acting on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children searched his home in Philadelphia. A criminal complaint alleges that Schobel, an English teacher at Harriton High School in Lower Merion, posed as a 17-year-old girl on a social media app called Yubo. Schobel, according to a court documents, was allegedly using the app to find a girl-to-girl relationship and redirecting conversations to Snapchat where he would ask for explicit images. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESYubo closed two accounts that investigators said were linked to Schobel and contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a user "grooming minors" online. Authorities say after being arrest Schobel admitted to creating both fake profiles and posing as an underage girl to solicit explicit images of teenage girls. He also admitted to communicating with girls between 16-years-old and 18-years-old for years prior to his recent arrest, according to a criminal complaint. In a letter to families, the Lower Merion School District said they are not aware of any inappropriate interactions between Schobel and students.

WASHINGTON - The family of Hae Min Lee is calling on Maryland's Supreme Court to hear their appeal, saying that while a lower court decision to reinstate the conviction of Adnan Syed in March remedied what they saw as a violation of victim’s rights, there’s one aspect they still feel needs to be addressed.   The attorney for Lee’s family filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari in the Supreme Court Thursday. In the petition, Young Lee, the brother of Hae Min Lee, asks the state Supreme Court to rule that victims of crime in Maryland have a right to be heard and challenge evidence in hearings that could vacate convictions, such as the one that reversed the verdict in Syed's 20-year-old case. "The Maryland Declaration of Rights requires that state agents treat crime victims with dignity, respect and sensitivity. That right to dignity means here that Young Lee should have the right to meaningfully participate in a hearing that could potentially vacate a murder conviction.

All school-related outdoor activities have been postponed or canceled. The district acknowledged that the decision will impact several elementary school move-up ceremonies and middle and high school graduations that were slated to be outside.

PHILADELPHIA - Vehicle thefts in Philadelphia have nearly doubled from this point last year and criminals are targeting two specific car brands, according to the latest data from police. The Philadelphia Police Department said there have been more than 9,000 vehicle thefts so far this year and half of those have involved Kias and Hyundais. "Obviously this is a major concern for us, the stolen cars out there lead to a lot of things, some are just joyriding others are used in crimes," Chief Walter Smith said.To prevent the growing trend, 21 districts from around Philadelphia came together Wednesday to hand out vehicle locks to Kia and Hyundai owners. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice also reached out to victims of vehicle thefts to let them know about the giveaway. PHILADELPHIA - An attempted robbery at a variety store in Philadelphia’s Olney section required the help of a bomb squad early Wednesday morning.An employee told police that three men entered the store on the 4700 block of North 5th Street with what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.It was actually an illegal improvised explosive device, which the suspects placed inside the money slot of an ATM inside the store, according to authorities.After attempting the light the fuse, which did not burn, police say the suspects fled the store and never returned. MORE HEADLINES:The store and surrounding area was evacuated by police as a bomb squad removed the device from the ATM, and put it in a safe container to transport back to headquarters.The explosive device was found to be a six-inches long, and one inch in diameter with a three-inch fuze."It will do damage to an ATM and it will cause very, very severe injuries to someone that's holding it or standing near it," said Chief Small. "So this is a very, very dangerous device."Small went on to say they were "very, very lucky" that the device did not explode.
