PHILADELPHIA - A woman and a dog were both transported to medical centers for treatment after an incident in Philadelphia, according to police. Authorities say on Thursday morning, just before 10:40 a.m., police responded to the 5700 block of North Park Avenue in the Fern Rock section of the city.  According to police, a 61-year-old woman was attacked by a pit bull and sustained several bite marks. Officials say a 62-year-old man with a license to carry witnessed the attack and shot the dog a single time. MORE HEADLINES: Medics transported the woman to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment, according to police. Authorities say the dog was transported to an animal hospital.Police have not released information about the condition of the woman or dog. The Department of Public Health was notified about the incident, and police say the investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - A young man is expected to recover after police say he was shot inside a Philadelphia KFC restaurant on Wednesday night. Investigators say the 20-year-old man was shot once in the arm while in the dining area of the popular fried chicken chain on the 300 block of North Broad Street. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department brought the victim to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in stable condition. Police have not said if there were any other customers in the dining area when the shooting happened. No arrests have been reported.

PHILADELPHIA - Simon Gratz High School in Strawberry Mansion will reopen to students on Thursday, after it abruptly closed due to asbestos. In a letter to families, Mastery Charter Schools CEO Scott Gordon said "all findings that needed to be remediated in order for the school to reopen are now complete" and added that air quality samples came back negative for asbestos. Officials closed the school closed over a week ago when inspectors from the School District of Philadelphia found damaged asbestos on the campus of Simon Gratz High School, which also houses Simon Gratz Preparatory Middle School. Officials say the three-year reinspection of the district-owned building was in accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act.

Dio Garcia of Philadelphia was arrested in Bensalem.  BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Bensalem Township Police Department is touting the success of what they call proactive police work after an armed robbery suspect wanted in Philadelphia was arrested during a traffic stop in the Bucks County town. Authorities say on Tuesday, just before 10 a.m., patrol officers saw a 2013 Ford Edge commit a violation while going south on Route 1. According to police, the officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with 40-year-old Dio Garcia from Philadelphia. A check of the crime system revealed the car Garcia was driving was listed as a felony vehicle with an occupant wanted for a point-of-gun robbery, officials say. Police say Garcia was also wanted out of Florida on a warrant for a probation violation. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESGarcia was taken into police custody and the Ford Edge was towed by police, authorities say. After a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, a search led to the finding of a container of suspected marijuana and a loaded .40 caliber Beretta handgun, officials say. The gun, which was reported stolen out of Delaware, matched the description of the weapon used in the armed robbery in Philadelphia, per police. Police say Garcia faces several charges in Bensalem and Philadelphia Police are obtaining an arrest warrant for the gunpoint robbery. 

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - Officials say two men are now wanted for the murder of a 25-year-old man who was found dead near the Schuylkill River Trail in Montgomery County last week.Arrest warrants have been issued for Cody Reed, 23, of Norristown, and Marquise Johnson, 23, of Philadelphia, for first-degree murder, robbery and related charges.The murder suspects are accused of killing Daquan Tucker, of Audubon, whose body was found by a bicyclist in a wooded area about 100 feet from the trail down a steep embankment. MORE HEADLINES:Officials say all three men knew each other, and met at Reed's home before walking the trail where the shooting took place. HATBORO, Pa. - A shelter-in-place has been issued in Hatboro after an armed man barricaded himself inside an apartment, authorities say.According to Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner, the incident began just after 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday evening when officers were dispatched for a report of a man with a gun on North York Road.Police say they were responding to reports that the man was pointing a gun at passing traffic.An officer responded to the location and made contact with the man, who then ran into a nearby apartment, officials say.Gardner says officers have attempted to contact the man throughout the night, but he has been unresponsive."At this point, our goal is to get this individual out of the apartment in a peaceful manner and resolve this so no one is injured," Gardner said.Officials say no shots were fired, but officers are still working to negotiate with the man.A shelter-in-place was issued for areas near the apartment as a precaution, authorities say.Nearby school districts were notified about the shelter-in-place and the Hatboro-Horsham School District closed all schools and offices for the day. Several roads in the area have been closed as police continue to investigate. Drivers have been asked to avoid the area. This is a developing story.

(Meg Puckett, CWHF herd manager)A beloved wild stallion that was a familiar favorite among visitors to the Outer Banks of North Carolina has tragically passed. Finn, an 11-year-old stallion, was seen fighting with other stallions last Friday, according to a post published to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund (CWHF) Facebook page. Then, later that same Friday evening into Saturday morning, Finn was seen "unable/unwilling to move." Veterinarians observed that Finn’s leg was broken beyond repair and it was advised that he be euthanized to end his suffering, the Facebook post read. According to the veterinarians, there was no reason to suspect that Finn’s injuries were caused by anything human-related, such as being hit by a vehicle. "While it is a devastating loss for those of us who cared for Finn and who will miss him dearly, what happened to him is nature in its most basic, wild, and unforgiving form.

PHILADELPHIA - One of America's largest and most popular retailers is officially shutting down one of its Philadelphia locations.The Washington Square Target at 1128 Chestnut Street will close for good on May 13 "after multiple years of working to improve performance," according to a Target spokesperson.Currently, 45 part-time and full-time employees work at the Center City location, which opened in 2016. MORE HEADLINES:Official say those employees will be offered the chance to work at a nearby Target. After the Washington Square store closes, nine other Targets will remain open in Philadelphia.The Target closure comes months after Wawa closed two Center City locations due to the rise of crime and violence across the city. 

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. - Several credit card skimmers discovered at local gas stations has prompted a police department to take further action to protect their citizens.Police say the skimmers were found on several gas station pumps at two separate locations in Penndel, a borough in Bucks County:No devices were found at a third location in town, according to authorities.MORE HEADLINES:Police say the source of the skimmers is not known at this time. However, an investigation has been launched, and additional checks are being added."We have been frequently checking the pumps for skimmers and working with the business owners to prevent them in the first place.

NFL’s competition committee will consider making roughing-the-passer penalties and personal-foul penalties subject to video review.The two potential rule changes were among nine the league announced Monday in its 2023 playing rules, bylaw and resolution proposals submitted by clubs.The Los Angeles Rams proposed the change that would allow teams to challenge roughing-the-passer calls. Several such calls sparked outrage last season, leaving players and coaches questioning what constitutes a legal hit on a quarterback.The Detroit Lions proposed giving teams an opportunity to challenge personal foul calls.The competition committee will consider the rule changes later this month when NFL owners gather in Arizona for their annual meeting.Other proposals include an option to try to convert a fourth-and-20 from the kicking team’s 20-yard line instead of attempting an onside kick.

PHILADELPHIA - Two men were caught yielding an ax and a gun in an attempt to rob a convenience store in Philadelphia's Eastwick section last week.Police say the suspects demanded money from an employee at the Maranatha Grocery Store on West Passyunk Avenue.Video captured one suspect holding the employee at gunpoint as the other carried a wooden box with an ax inside.MORE HEADLINES: With a few swings of the ax, the suspects attempted to break into an ATM.They fled the scene without any stolen items or money, according to police.Police are attempting to identify the suspects, and ask anyone with information to contact them.
