 COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan who died in the earthquakes in Turkiye on the 6th of February was buried in Hatay/Antakya in Turkiye, confirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (14).The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara had been working to ascertain the welfare of the sixteen Sri Lankans who were living in the area affected by the earthquake and tremors, in coordination with the  Türkiye authorities. It was confirmed that 15 of them, contacted by the Embassy are safe, while a Sri Lankan female who was living in Hatay/Antakya Province in Türkiye, was reported missing. The Embassy was able to confirm the fate of the Sri Lankan concerned and also noted the unfortunate death of the missing Sri Lankan.The identity of the deceased Sri Lankan is withheld at the request of the family. Burial of the human remains of the deceased already took place in Hatay/Antakya, in line with regulations imposed by the health authorities, said the Foreign Ministry.Death toll from earthquakes went past 37,000.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead near Temple University's campus Monday night.Around 6:20 p.m., police responded to the 1200 block of West Venago Street for reports that someone had been shot.When officers arrived, they found a 23-year-old in the driver's seat of a crashed car who had been shot two times in the arm, two times in the chest, and one time in the back. Police say the victim was transported to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m. No weapons were recovered, and no arrests were immediately reported, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Federal workplace safety authorities have fined a central Pennsylvania confectionary factory more than $14,500 following an accident last year in which two workers fell into a vat of chocolate.The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Mars Wrigley in the June accident at the Elizabethtown M&M/Mars factory, saying the workers were not authorized to work in the tanks and weren't trained on the proper safety procedures for the equipment.Officials said two workers employed by an outside contracting firm fell into the partially filled chocolate tank while doing maintenance work. Emergency responders were able to free the pair by cutting a hole in the bottom of the tank, officials said.

He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.Police interviewed the homeowner and the victim’s 13-year-old cousin who were also at the home.

CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas - Authorities in Texas are working to identify the human remains discovered by a family’s dog.Luling Police said on Feb. 9, a resident on Hackberry Avenue notified officers after finding a human skull in their yard.The family said their pet dog had been bringing back bones for a week, but then brought a human skull from an unknown location.RELATED: Knot what you see every day: Remains of 1884 shipwreck discovered on Massachusetts beachThe family— originally thinking the bones were from an animal— had collected the remains and placed them in a plastic bag.Upon further investigation, officers discovered the dog was retrieving the bones from an abandoned structure near the family’s home.

PHILADELPHIA - A Comcast spokesperson said an internet outage that impacted of customers in two Philadelphia neighborhoods has been resolved. The outage was reported to be resolved shortly after the Eagles scored a touchdown on the opening drive of Super Bowl LVII.Comcast spokesperson Jen Bilotta said physical damage that severed fiberoptic cable in the Kensington section of northeast Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon resulted in an outage affecting a few thousand households in the Kensington and Fishtown neighborhoods and some surrounding areas.Crews worked for several hours to resolve the problem and some customers slowly started to come back online.
