Officials announce charges in connection with illegal trafficking of nearly 400 guns to the Philadelphia area

PHILADELPHIA - Federal authorities say nearly 400 guns purchased in southern states and illegally trafficked into the Philadelphia area have been seized in two interstate gun trafficking cases. According to officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, 14 people were charged in the indictment for illegally selling guns from southern states to people in Philadelphia.ATF officials say they met with multiple agencies in April 2021 to come up with a plan to combat rising crime in Philadelphia, including violent carjackings. Authorities say Frederick Norman, Brianna Walker, Stephen Norman, Charles O'Bannon, Devin Church, Roger Millington, Ernest Payton, Kenneth Burgos, Edwin Burgos, Roselmy Rodriguez and Brianna Reed were charged in connection with the first trafficking case in Georgia. Gray whales give tour group 'most epic' encounter off Southern California coast

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Whale watchers off the coast of Southern California had an unforgettable encounter with gray whales — one the excursion company called its "most epic" of all time. On Monday, passengers on a Newport Coastal Adventure tour boat near Newport Beach were cruising along the water at sunset when a pair of giant gray whales stopped to check out the small vessel for more than 45 minutes. Video shared by the company showed the gray whales calmly rolling, bobbing and even raising their tails out of the water next to the boat, much to the delight of the tour group. The whale watchers are also heard excitedly reacting as the curious creatures blew from their blowholes."The encounter lasted for over 45 minutes as the whales were rolling, spy hopping, and became extremely interested in our boat and passengers onboard," Jessica Roame, Newport Coastal Adventure’s education manager, said in an email, who added that this behavior is referred to as "mugging."The unique interaction happened about two miles offshore from the Newport Beach coastline, Roame said.Roame emphasized the fast raft boat’s engines were off and the boat holding 15 people was drifting during the encounter. "It’s important to stress that during this time in the year, boaters should be cautious when boating in the ocean, and keep a sharp eye out for migrating gray whales because they are on the move all along the coast right now," she said.

Security threats temporarily close Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill closed Wednesday morning after several security incidents. On Tuesday at 8:40 a.m., police and the FBI responded to the center for the report of a bomb threat, authorities say. Cherry Hill police say the building was evacuated and no explosives were found. The facility reopened at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. "Safety and security of our children and other members are our primary concern," said Oded Kraus the Director of Katz JCC.

Fentanyl, guns, cash seized following foot pursuit of man in Phoenix parking lot

PHOENIX - Phoenix Police released a body cam video from Feb. 3 of an officer chasing a man on foot for a short period after he reportedly ran from a parked car with drugs.The video shows the man running from the officer, then once the officer catches up to him, he's brought to the ground and is arrested.A search warrant was served at a home connected to the man and police say they found about 67,000 fentanyl pills, about $14,000 and five guns.The identity of the suspect, in this case, hasn't been released.Drug busts in Phoenix aren't new as fentanyl has become increasingly more common to be sold and used in Arizona as it's often trafficked through the U.S.-Mexico border.Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it had seen a "substantial increase" in fentanyl seizures at the southern border in January, just as it confirmed that there were 153,941 migrant encounters.There were 48,945 lbs of drugs seized at the southern border in January, which is down from 59,793 lbs encountered a year prior.
