The telltale signs of Covid differ based on which variant of the virus you have caught, a study has found. Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has discovered that several symptoms show more often when someone contracts the new 'UK' strain, first detected late last year.

These signs of infection include a cough, fatigue and sore throat, according to WalesOnline. But the study also found that abdominal pain, loss of taste and smell is more probably a sign of the original variant of Covid.

The ONS, which has been running a months-long mass survey into the virus, added there was "no evidence" of any difference in symptoms reported to do with shortness of breath or headaches.
