Drawings from children, gifts from the public and heartfelt messages of support from households are lifting the spirits of binmen working through the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
And one refuse collector has told of the love he and his colleagues are feeling as they pound the streets of Manchester. Jack Mills, an 18-year-old binman working in the city, said his crew were collecting more rubbish than ever before as people stay at home.
But the hard work, he said, was being tempered by little gestures putting smiles on their faces. Notes and pictures have been attached to wheelie bins and gifts left out.
