This bank holiday weekend, the hustle and bustle of Churchgate in the heart of Bolton's town centre has more closely resembled a ghost town.
Known for popular drinking spots such as Hogarths, The Venue and The Swan, it is Ye Olde Man and Scythe that holds a particularly long and storied history.
One of the oldest pubs in the whole of Great Britain, the first recorded mention of Man and Scythe is in a charter in 1251. Over the last 769 years, it has been rebuilt a number of times and it is changed hands many times more.
But, for part of the 1600s, it was owned by the family of James Stanley, seventh Earl of Derby. On May 28 1644, Stanley was responsible for more than 1,000 people being murdered in Bolton.
